A Registered Social Worker, not engaged in the practice of social work in British Columbia, may choose to transfer to the Non-Practising class of registration.
A Non-Practising registrant may not engage in any work, employment or volunteering, that involves the scope of practice of social workers in the province of B.C. This registration class is appropriate for registrants who are on parental or sick leave.
Registrants whose work falls in the scope of practice must remain in the Full/Clinical class of registration as an RSW or RCSW. The full scope of practice can also be found in the Standards of Practice, on page 8.
A registrant who wishes to transfer to the Non-Practising class must submit the Non-Practising Declaration form, which can be found here.
A Non-Practising RSW does not have any annual Continuing Professional Development requirements.
