Completing your CPD before the October 31 deadline

3 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Tips and Tricks:

Completing your CPD before the October 31 deadline

  1. Learn what you can include in your CPD submission

The BC College of Social Workers recognizes one CPD hour as one hour spent on an activity that maintains and enhances your capacity to practice safely, ethically, and effectively. If you feel an activity maintains and enhances your capacity to practice social work safely, ethically and effectively, then you can include the activity.

This can include reading books, engaging in discussion groups, attending a workshop, etc. Many registrants realize they exceed their 40 hour CPD requirement when they come to learn the breadth of activities that can be included in a CPD submission.

For more inspiration, and to learn what kinds of activities are acceptable for CPD, see the list of Categories of Activities here.

  1. Take the time to understand how the online CPD submission works

Submitting CPD near the deadline can be stressful, particularly if registrants are not computer savvy or have not yet used the online CPD system. By watching our new Walkthrough Video, you can learn everything there is to know about how the CPD system works, which will make your submission more about your professional development learning and less about computer program learning.

  1. Add activities as you go throughout the year

The CPD Cycle begins on November 1st, and ends on October 31st of each year. By making goals early in the cycle and adding activities as you go throughout the year, you can avoid unneeded stress near the deadline.
