Membership on the College Committees is a great opportunity for registrants to contribute their expertise to the regulation of the social work profession in British Columbia, in the best interest of the public. The College is anticipating possible vacancies on the following committees in 2025: Quality Assurance Committee (3 positions) The Quality Assurance Committee (QAC) is responsible for the BCCSW Standards of Practice and for our Continuing Professional Development (CPD) program. The QAC exists for the purpose of enhancing the quality of social work practice and to reduce incompetent, impaired, or unethical practice among registrants. The QAC is committed to its membership being reflective of the diversity of social workers in our province, with seats reserved for members who identify as belonging to equity-seeking groups. The QAC meets once every 4-6 weeks for 1.5 hours. Members are also expected to engage in additional hours for preparation for the meetings and work undertaken by the QAC. Registration Committee (2 positions) The Registration Committee is responsible for ensuring the Registration policies outlined in the Social Workers Act and the Bylaws are being followed and for developing recommendations for registration policies for approval by the Board. The activities and scope of the Registration Committee are outlined in the Social Workers Act and Bylaws of the BC College of Social Workers. The Registration Committee meets every 4 weeks for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Members are also expected to engage in additional hours for preparation for the meetings and work undertaken by the Registration Committee. Discipline Committee The mandate of the Discipline Committee is to hear and determine matters set for hearing by citation issued at the direction of the Inquiry Committee in accordance with Division 3 of the Social Workers Act. The Discipline Committee meets for the purpose of conducting hearings which are open to the public, and panels of three committee members are constituted for the purposes of a hearing. As such, this committee does not hold regular meetings, however members who are part of the panel are expected to be available for the entire process of a disciplinary hearing, when they are conducted. Inquiry Committee (5 positions) The mandate of the Inquiry Committee is to investigate all complaints regarding Registered Social Workers and Registered Clinical Social Workers, including complaints made against someone who was previously registered but is not currently registered. The activities and scope of the Inquiry Committee are outlined in the Social Workers Act and Bylaws of the BC College of Social Workers. Specific activities include investigating a complaint, which may involve appointing an inspector and requiring the Registered Social Worker to provide information and taking steps to resolve complaints. The College can impose disciplinary measures that range from temporary oversight of a social worker to removal of an individual’s right to practice social work. The Inquiry Committee meets every 4-6 weeks for 2 to 2.5 hours through virtual meetings. Members are also expected to engage in additional hours for preparation for the meetings by reviewing information provided and being well prepared to participate in deliberations and decision making. Indigenous Council The Indigenous Council seeks to reflect Indigenous values and Indigenous ways of working to provide a framework for engaging in College affairs. The Council acts in an advisory capacity to the College offering Indigenous cultural perspectives and knowledge as a way to culturally inform the development of regulation, College policies, initiatives, projects and programs, communications and relationship building with Indigenous persons and communities. The Council meets every 4-6 weeks for about 1.5 to 2 hours. Members are also expected to engage in additional hours for preparation for the meetings and work undertaken by the Council.
