As part of its public protection mandate and commitment to ensuring high standards of professional practice, the College conducts audits on approximately 1% of Continuing Professional Development (CPD) submissions each year.
These audits are carried out by the Quality Assurance Committee under Standard 7 of the Standards of Practice and help ensure that registrants are engaging in meaningful, relevant learning that supports safe, ethical, and competent social work practice.
Registrants who are selected for an audit may be asked to provide additional documentation to support the CPD activities they have reported. Following the audit, pursuant to section 68 of the BCCSW Bylaws, the Quality Assurance Committee determines whether or not a registrant has complied with the requirements of the CPD program. If there is a determination of non-compliance, the Quality Assurance Committee may enter into an agreement with the registrant for any remedial action for the purpose of ensuring minimum practice standards.
The audit process serves a dual purpose by confirming that registrants are meeting their CPD requirements and supporting the College in evaluating the overall effectiveness of the CPD program. By holding registrants accountable for ongoing professional development, the College helps maintain public confidence in the profession and reinforces its commitment to protecting the public through regulatory oversight.
