2. Have you completed and submitted the Application Supplement 1 – Knowledge Equivalency Portfolio for the substantial equivalency assessment? (Required)

To apply for registration without a social work degree from an academic program approved by the board, applicants must demonstrate substantial equivalency in seven subject areas: Social Welfare, Social Policy, Social Work Ethics, Social Work Practice, Social Work Theory, Human Behaviour and Development, and Research Methods. It is essential that this education is substantially equivalent to a social work degree from Canada. Simply taking one course or completing introductory courses in these subjects does not meet the equivalence requirement. Therefore, applicants are expected to provide evidence of substantive upper-level credits across all specified areas to establish their qualifications.’

Applicants must provide evidence of not less than 700 hours of social work experience. This requirement is typically met by completing two practicums as part of their bachelor’s degree in social work.

Please arrange for your current or past supervisor to complete the Section 2 and 3. This information is crucial in determining if the applicant meets the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA) requirements as well as the 700 hours of social work experience. The applicant must meet the requirement of section 49(1)(b), which requires a minimum of 700 hours of social work experience that meets standards approved by the board. 

4. Have you had your international credentials assessed by an approved credential evaluation service?(Required)

International credentials are required to be assessed by any of the  credential evaluation service providers approved by the College’s Registration Committee  by arranging for a basic report sent to the College directly by one of the approved credential evaluation service providers.

International credentials must be assessed by one of the following credential evaluation service providers: International Credential Evaluation Service – British Columbia Institute of Technology Comparative Education Service – University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies, International Credential Assessment Service of Canada, World Education Services, International Qualifications Assessment Service (IQAS), Comparative Education Service – University of Toronto School of Continuing Studies.

5. Have you completed criminal record checks for all countries where you've resided or worked as an adult? (Required)

Criminal record checks are required from any country in which an applicant was a resident or worked as an adult. If citizenship or permanent residency in Canada has been granted and the applicant has not resided outside Canada since the date of issue, the College may accept proof of a Permanent Resident Card or Canadian Citizenship information in lieu of international criminal record checks.

6. Have you provided a copy of two pieces of identification? (Required)

A high quality copy of two (2) pieces of identification. One must be government issued photo identification. These copies can be sent to the College by email, or mail. For a list of acceptable ID, click  here.

Two letters of reference on the forms provided sent directly to the College via mail or email by the Referees (refer to the website for the correct form). Please note: Referees must have known the applicant for over one year and not be a relative.

9. If applicable, have you completed the Verification of Registration/Licensure form? 

Applicants, who are currently or have been in the past registered with another regulatory body, are required to have this form submitted by each regulatory body. There are separate forms for social work regulators and non-social work regulators, which can be found on the 'Application Forms' page of our website. Please ensure that you are using the appropriate form. This form must be mailed back to the College from the other body.
