The BC College of Social Workers is proud to be part of the BC Health Regulators (BCHR) which represents 23 regulatory colleges. It is an incorporated, not-for-profit society with a purpose of promoting collaboration and partnership among health profession regulators governed by the Health Professions Act and the Social Workers Act. Our Declaration of Commitment is an important step towards advancing cultural safety and humility among regulated health professionals who are involved in the delivery of health services to First Nations and Aboriginal people in British Columbia. This commitment reflects the high priority we, as the designated BC health profession regulatory leaders, place on cultural safety and humility as quality and safety dimensions that are integral components of our public protection mandate.
Our signatures demonstrate our long-term commitment to the regulation of health professionals to promote and advance cultural safety and humility for First Nations and Aboriginal people in British Columbia and to championing the process required to achieve this position.
This Declaration is endorsed by the Ministry of Health and the First Nations Health Authority and signed by their representatives and the members of the BC Health Regulators.
The Canadian Association for Social Work Education – l’Association Canadienne pour la Formation en Travail Social (CASWE-ACFTS), the Canadian Council of Social Work Regulators (CCSWR), and the Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) met in Winnipeg, Manitoba on June 12, 2016 to sign a historic Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The purpose of the MOU is to foster communication, connection and collaboration among these three pillars of the profession. The three Intersectoral pillars represent social work education, regulation, and the professional association in Canada. The MOU will also serve to unite and promote the social work profession. The Canadian Council of Social Work Regulators (CCSWR) represents all provincial/territorial social work regulatory authorities in Canada.
CASWE-ACFTS is a bilingual, Canadian association with a social justice focus that promotes excellence in social work education, practice andscholarly activities. It does this through the enrichment of social work education, the accreditation of social work educational programs in Canada, advocacy, research, publication, consultation and collaboration at both Canadian and international levels.
The Canadian Association of Social Workers (CASW) is the national professional association. CASW promotes and strengthens and promotes the profession, supports its members, and advances issues of social justice.
The British Columbia Association of Social Workers (BCASW) and British Columbia College of Social Workers (BCCSW) are pleased to announce our partnership in our commitment to reconciliation and decolonization of social work practice. We recognize that the profession of social work has an important role and responsibility in supporting the implementation of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s recommendations. Our intention is respectful dialogue with Indigenous communities, exploring pathways to building our relationships and new ways of working together. BCASW and BCCSW will be moving forward with both joint and separate activities in accordance with our organizational mandates.
